New Release

Hello everyone! Well, guess what??? The Harder They Buck was released with The Wilder Rose Press on Friday. Now I love to go to the Amazon site or to novelrank and check my sales for my books, and was a little disappointed when The Harder They Buck was not up on amazon. I emailed my editor to see how long it’d take, because you know I was checking novelrank like every two minutes! She explained that it’d take her a few days to get it on there but that if she were me she’d push buying from The Wild Rose Press. I usually do that anyway but I really wanted to see it on amazon. She went on to explain why it was so important for me to encourage people too buy direct. Why you ask? I”ll break it down in numbers 🙂

If Amazon buys your book at wholesale for $2.50 you get royalties from that price which at 35% is $.88. Now lets see what it’d be if you bought direct from the publisher. At full price your book may be $4.50 so you’d get 35% of that which is $1.58! WOW what a difference that is.

Also when buying ebooks read the formatting guidelines. You may not realize it but most all epublishers have a program you can download that is compatablie with you reader. Usually you will see a page that says “Which format to use?”. Give it a second before you decide you can’t buy from that publisher. Read the information given and try it. If it doesn’t work email the publisher and complain, most will understand(from my experience).

So now I give you The Harder They Bcuk 🙂

The Harder They Buck

WARNING: This book contains the use of whips, ropes, and handcuffs by one sexy cowboy looking to win the ride of his life.

Raised by parents who don’t believe in affection, Melanie Brantley developed a hard-edged outlook on life…and love. But then along comes a cowboy who makes her blood boil, and not only with anger. A fact that scares the hell out of her. Enough that she seeks solace at Minx, a club that caters to the more carnal pleasures.

After recovering from a bull ride gone wrong, Lance Wright is ready to move forward and he’s set his sights on Melanie. Her temper tells him all he needs to know about the passion he’d find in her bed. The wildcat fights him every step of the way, but she’s in for a surprise. The harder Melanie bucks, the more Lance wants to ride.

The alarm on Melanie’s cell phone vibrated, thank god. She’d stayed the hour and a half she’d promised. Time to get the heck outta here.

“Someone important?” Lance’s low voice whispered behind her.

Melanie tensed. She’d been just about to run for the hills. “Kinda. What do you want?” She turned and stared at him. His deep brown hair was half hidden under his black cowboy hat, and his long sleeved orange and white plaid shirt stood out in a sea of red and green shirts. His eyes danced with mischief, and she fought not to dance with them. One thing she did love was a guy to play with, and Lance was always ready to play.

“I’m glad you invited your sister up for the holidays. She’s nice. I was worried when Billie said she was coming up.” He smirked. “It’s hard enough around here with you, but I sure didn’t need another woman threatening me with bodily harm.”

“Leave my baby sister alone,” she nearly growled.

“Can’t do that—unless you’d like to take her place. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings a bit if you’d hold off on hurting me to go out with me, at least once.” He leaned close, his spicy cologne filling her nose and setting her on path to sure destruction. “All that passion you have, I can help you put it to good use.” He nipped her ear.

She wanted to lean into him, to press her body against his and do just what he’d said. Yes, she knew he’d use her passion to drive her to the brink of madness, and what was more, if she let him, she would drive herself further. There was something about Lance Wright that upped her emotions. Never before had a man stirred such hate and love. She’d always heard the line between love and hate was thinly veiled, and standing so close to Lance, feeling his body heat against hers, she knew it was the truth.

Explicitly English Anyone?? Join Author Rachel Leigh for her Latest Release

Hello all!! Today I’m so blessed to have a fellow rose author with us. Rachel Leigh’s release Explicitly English released on Friday and I encourage everyone to go get a little explicity :). Comment on todays post and enter to win on Friday for my first release Riding Double and my new release The Harder They Buck(releases this FRIDAY!!).

So here we go, Rachel Leigh take it over!

It’s fun amidst the English countryside….

I am so happy to be here to share a brief time with you talking about my first erotic romance with The Wild Rose Press, entitled Explicitly English. As I live in the UK, I love writing about British settings and British people even though I write for the American market.

And the reason? Because I love the questions my US readers ask me! It’s as simple as that. I love the questions about how we live, where we live, our traditions, our royal family, the infamous writers from the past. It really gives me a fantastic warm feeling to know our two countries are so connected.

So when I came up with the idea for Explicitly English, I knew the hero would be a city stockbroker who chooses to live in a quaint English village at the weekends and holidays. Why? Because it immediately makes him interesting…and the heroine, his hired interior designer, can’t wait to find out a whole lot more about Mr. Stephen Cambridge!

Here’s an excerpt:

Right now, she had no man other than Mr. Steven Cambridge to seduce.  With her designs.  Laura narrowed her eyes. She would walk straight into the man’s gorgeous home with her head held high and her secret arsenal of designs tucked under her arm.  She was bloody good at her job – she knew it and he knew it.  They had been emailing back and forth for nearly two months.  If he had any intuition at all, he already knew how Laura thought and, if he was really good, he’d have a pretty good idea just how passionate she was about his home too.

The colors she used in her work and the fabrics she’d chosen reflected the emotions a client’s home ignited in her.  And Stephen Cambridge’s house ignited something absurdly sensual…and sexual.  Laura had never taken such pleasure in her work as she had designing the erotic, yet tasteful, plush yet daring concepts she’d created for his cottage.  Instead of maximizing the predictable ‘English country look,’ Laura’s instinct had been to make it a gateway to the age-old battle of chastity versus lust, propriety versus passion…

Nestled in a small picturesque village, consisting of honey-colored cottages and shops, surrounded by fields of endless green grass and forests seeped in history and legend, the cottage was like something plucked from a BBC drama.  Her heart picked up speed at the thought of escaping there for the next couple of days.  Or better still, for the rest of her life.  Mmm…tucked away with the man of her dreams and nothing more than sex to worry about.  Perfect.

When The Commas Attack

Thats right you heard it! The commas have attacked me! Seriously all I see when I am typing are commas! They’re everywhere.

A few weeks ago I think my critique partner Rebecca Zanetti decided she wanted to paint a rainbow on my document she was critiquing because she hit the highlighter and put commas everywhere! Now, I see my page and see nothing but commas and a highlighted page! All right, not really but damn who knew that commas were such a big deal? I should also stop and let everyone know that although I actually have scored very high on IQ tests I skipped over half of my senior year in high school which cut out a lot of my grammar learning 🙂 In college I did very well, but after six years of no school to keep me on track with my grammar I am struggling a bit.

I have studied a bit about grammar but my eyes literally glaze over and I begin to fade into the sleep world just at the sight of an english book! So I learned how to use the grammar check on my computer and I place commas where I think they should be. Most of that has worked, yet I still need a ton of those damn little things! They’re killing me! I dream of going back in time to find hte person responsible for them and beating him/her down!

So that’s my writing weakness, what is yours?

Don’t forget that The Harder They Buck will be available on October 22, 2010 with The Wild Rose Press! And look for fellow The Wild Rose Press author Rachel Leigh as a special guest blogger soon. Her book Explicitly English will be available with The Wild Rose Press Friday. For more information on Rachel please check out her website

It’s Time to Cowboy Up

Hello all! Today I’m doing a impromptu post. I hadn’t planned on putting anything together as I’m sure everyone is tired of hearing about me and my cowboys but today we must Cowboy Up. This saying hits home because while I’ve been taking a short break from writing and editing I realized I have edits due to my editor on Monday! I haven’t even started yet so tonight my plan is to Cowboy Up and get those damn edits finished!!

The edits I am talking about are for my new release in my “Cowgirl Tough” series. The second book, a separate story from Riding Double will feature familiar names who will be striking out in relationships of their own. In THE HARDER THEY BUCK readers will be introduced to a new setting and new faces. This setting and characters will lead to my “Wicked Cowboy’s” series. I’m thrilled to present the readers here on the Southern Sizzle Blog with the first ever excerpt of THE HARDER THEY BUCK:

Oh yeah let me warn y’all this is an erotic romance with heavy steam! It’s Hot! Handle with care 🙂

The others she’d slept with at Minx had all been good-looking men, but this guy took the cake. He was a man made to lust after and never touch; touching would lead most women to sure heartache. But tonight Melanie would touch him and relish every second of it. The guy was ripped from top to bottom. Well what bottom she could see as he still had on his pants.

His eyes racked over her nude body before a small curve lit his lips into a smile. Her breath caught in her chest the smile, so familiar yet so strange. He stepped into the room one foot slowly descending to the floor at a time. With each stride she backed toward the bed. Her heart hammered against the confines of her chest and her pussy already ached. The look of pure desire shining through his veiled brown eyes sent a quiver of desire to her soul.

She was in deep shit and knew it. This guy would take her however he wanted and she’d love every second of it. But he’d demand her submission and that was something not easily given by her. Something she’d never given to anyone. Her feet caught on one of the plush rugs on the floor and she stumbled backward. A strong large hand snaked around her upper arm and righted her. She gazed at the man, not knowing what to say or do but then he did it for her.

He tugged her flush against him and stroked her back with his other calloused hand. Bright brown eyes bore into hers and she knew deep down to stay still and silent. Let him get his eye full and then she’d be able to get some release. Her skin tingled with each inch he touched and heat, white-hot and scorching heat melted her inside out. She struggled not to pant as he slowly ran his hand to her waist.

Melanie sucked in a breath when he eased away studying her body. His hand circled her waist, grazing her skin with his short clipped fingernails and she trembled when the pressure increased. His hand skimmed her narrow waist as he slid around her body to stand behind her. The scent of mint from toothpaste and the spice of cologne wafted in her senses.

All thoughts left her mind when the heat from his skin singed hers.

Thanks everyone for stopping by today and reading the first ever excerpt of THE HARDER THEY BUCK coming from The Wild Rose Press soon. Don’t forget that RIDING DOUBLE is available now at The Wild Rose Press.

Tuesday’s Industry News, Rules on words and actions

Last night as I was thinking over what today’s post could be a friend emailed me and another friend asking if we knew in romance it wasn’t ok for a man to giggle. Well I confess of the many rules and regulations, I had run across this one before. First I hate it when characters giggle, even though my critique partner makes hers giggle. Sometimes I think she sends me chapters with them giggling just to mess with me. But giggling isn’t all that I’ve run across when it comes to “No, No’s”.

A while back I had someone critique a chapter of mine and inform me that I shouldn’t have the same action done twice on one page. Well I thought “screw that, I’m doing it anyway.” So I was wrong. My editor at The Wild Rose Press quickly took those actions away.

Example: Billy caressed her cheek sending a shiver of passion through her.

Two paragraphs later: Sandra caressed Billy’s hard chest which trembled under her touch.

Another paragraph on the page: Both trembled with passion.

Ok, so those are “no no’s”, why because those actions were repeated on the same page. Now what to do, I usually write all my actions like this then go back on my second version to rewrite some of them to separate the actions and reactions so I don’t have two or more on the same page. But this also brings me to words I hate using. As I write steamy and in some cases down right erotica I have to look for words to take place of some actions I’d like to use each time. Tremble and shake are my “go to” words for my steamy scenes. But my editor at TWRP makes me look for more, her favorite “go to” word “quiver” I HATE that word. It gets under my skin and I hate it. But sometimes I need to use it.

Also I learned that it’s not acceptable in most cases to have your hero so emotional he’s crying. Now a little moisture is fine but not a lot of tears. This bothered me until I really thought about what my reaction in real life would be like. So now I have no crying heros(moisture acceptable, just not a river), no giggling, and lots of quivering. The twists and turns of the writing industry are stunning sometimes and well they just keep adding more twists but good writers adapt and make it all work. What are some rules, or words you have found that bother you and how do you adapt to the ever changing rules?

Countdown to Conference and a bit of News on Sayde

Hello everyone! Well it’s about that time. What time you ask, well conference time of course! This Friday the Silken Sands Writers Conference kicks off and all the lovely ladies here on Southern Sizzle will be attending and pitching our terrific manuscripts to some very lucky agents and editors(yeah I said!). I have every ounce of confidence that this weekend will be a great weekend for the ladies here.  Today our guest editor interview is scheduled to be Samhain editor Lindsey Faber. We are experiencing technical difficulties at this time but please stay tuned 🙂

In the mean time I do have a bit of news on my front. Many of you know that I’ve been contracted for a short story through Scarlet Rose an imprint of The Wild Rose Press. My short story Riding Double will be released May 7, 2010. It’s about lost love, new love, renewed love, and the consequences of ones past actions on their future. And of course a little hot sex thrown in there too. A little closer to release date I’ll post the excerpt and a little more info about it.

Following Riding Double will be two more short stories with the characters from Riding Double. I’ve also been asked to revise and resubmitt a paranormal romance to Loose Id and another short story with The Wild Rose Press. I’m thrilled to have the opportunities to do both and looking forward to those. But first I’m way behind on my new werewolf story so I gotta get going. Enough playing on the blog and back to work! I’ll post Ms. Faber’s interview the minute our TD’s are taken care of. Thanks everyone for letting me brag  minute!

Riding Double

Hello everyone! I hope you all like the title of this post because it is also the title of my newly contracted short story! That’s right, you heard me I just mailed my contract off and will begin editor revisions soon. Most of you will remember at Christmas I had just received an email from one editor who liked the book I’d queried her with but honestly thought it’d be better as an erotic short story than take the non-erotic elements and use it as a mainstream romance. I balked at first but after really considering my options(others had also wanted revisions) I decided to make two books out of one. More work yes, better outcome? YES.

So now I’ve sent my contract back to The Wild Rose Press, Scarlet Rose and look forward to giving you all a release date soon. Thank you soooooo much to all my sizzlers. You ladies are the best and I can’t wait to see you all in Feb to talk it all over. Get prepared to listen 🙂
