Badurday- May 4, 2013- Tony Stark

Is there any boy badder than Tony Stark as played by Robert Downey, Jr? He’s handsome, he’s charismatic, he’s brilliant and he’s not afraid of anyone. The latest installment in his story came out yesterday and I can’t wait to see it. I have to wait though since I’m claustrophobic and the theater will be too crowded for me for a bit. So, as I eagerly anticipate getting to go, here’s some trailers I’ve watched a few times – Enjoy.

If you’re like me and need to wait for the theaters to clear out some and need something to do, here’s a book you could read. It doesn’t have Tony Stark but it has a handsome Spaniard Grandee as the hero. Murder, mystery and romance on the high seas. What more could you want? Yeah, yeah, I know, Tony Stark.

Bernadette McSwain’s family has a strong connection to the Queen Mary ocean liner. They’re invited to sail on the Queen’s final voyage to her new home in Long Beach, California in 1967. Bernadette and her cousin, Michel are writing a book on the spirits who haunt the mighty ship. Bernadette’s psychic abilities help in their research. They meet a young Spanish grandee, Lazarus Garcia, who’s on the ship as a chef to learn to run his own first class restaurant. He’s surrounded by anguished spirits whom Bernadette can see. When passengers start to die in violent ways, Bernadette suspects Lazarus of the crimes. This suspicion causes a rift between the cousins as Michel has befriended the Spaniard. As the voyage continues and Lazarus tries to charm her, Bernadette must make a decision about him or face losing her cousin, both literally and figuratively.

Bad-urady December 12, 2009

Here is a real bad dude.  He is a brilliant actor that has such a demon on his back.  It seems like he has it under control for now and I hope that lasts.  He is an incredible actor and even in the midst of all his addictions, he was still great in every role he ever played.  Such a natural charm.  Let’s hope he has whipped that demon into submission.

I chose him in honor of his new movie coming out on Dec 25-  Sherlock Holmes.  One of my favorite series of stories when I was growing up.  Sherlock Holmes and his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, helped to make me the anglophile I am today.  Was there ever anyone who could better evoke the sooty city of London at the turn of the last century?  I think not.

Anyway, the movie comes out on Christmas and also features Mark Strong, one of our Badurday alums, as the bad guy (fitting, yeah?)  So, Here are two more shots of the man of the day:

Dressed and undressed. NICE!

EDITED TO ADD:  See my personal blog for my thoughts on the movie: http://sherryfowlerchancellor.wordpress.com/

BAD-URDAY Sept 26 edition

This week’s bad boy of film is Mark Strong.  Now, some of you may not have him on your radar as yet and if not, I’m sad for you.  He is quite yummy.  He has played Mr. Knightley in Emma (yea- not a bad guy but he did get on to Emma and told her she behaved badly- BBC tv version, by the way), he played Nick in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, he was Septimus in Stardust (Not a great movie, but he looked great!).  He was Archy in RocknRolla.  He was in Syriana. He was in Flashbacks of a fool with Daniel Craig.  He is very versatile.  He plays Lord Blackwood in the Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law coming out in December.  I bet he’ll be one yummy bad guy- he usually is.  AND, I know this is a shock to you, he is BRITISH!   Can you believe I picked a British guy for Bad-urday?   Those of you who know me are saying, “Sfcatty, we were more shocked the weeks that you didn’t pick a Brit.”

Anyway, enjoy Mark and rent something he was in. You won’t be disappointed.
