Moonday’s Heroic Hunk in History is Sir Issac Newton. He is usually pictured as an older man in a long white wig getting conked on the head with an apple—you know, the gravity thing. Our Newtie, however sober in his later years, was no saint in his youth. Thanks to the Fitzwilliam Project which is part of The Newton Project (an effort to assemble everything Newtonian and post it on the internet.) we know exactly, in his own words just how naughty Newtie was. In 1662, he recorded his misdeeds of his 19th year for posterity. A list of all his sins is much too long to include here but peruse the edited list below.
When you’ve read your fill and giggled at his misdeeds, check out the post about the Sizzlers at Champagne’s Blog . You get the story of how we met and started the Southern Sizzle Romance Blog. You’ll also gets some bio on Arabella (Wet Wednesdays) that she did NOT approve and a look at her Georgian romance Proof of Love that just made a bestseller list. I recognize so many of these! They say only the forms of the tangibles change in life.
I’ve ofen wondered how many fathers back then went to the stable in the morning, only to find their mount exhausted from the equivalent of an equine joy ride to visit strumpets down at the pubs. lol Must have been like finding your full tank of gas down by half in today’s times.
So right, Runere. Newton’s father died 3 months before he was born. Mama remarried and left him with grandparents for many years before returning after husband #2 died. THen she took him out of school because she didn’t want to pay his fees. Newton couldn’t return until teacher waived fees and then at college he had to work as a gofer. Can understand his upset. Rita
He’s handome and brilliant. I’d take him and be naughty!
Hey, Jillian. Had to dig deep to find a good pic. He loved to have himself painted as an older man. Unfortunately, not so handsome. Rita
LOL! I’m not as handsome as I was as a young woman either. I appreciate the dig deep for this picture!
